Greenhouse Climate Controller

Context

A small backyard greenhouse was losing seedlings to temperature swings. This controller reads temperature and humidity, drives a vent servo and an irrigation valve, and logs everything for later analysis.

My role

Designed the control logic, wired the enclosure, and wrote the firmware and the logging pipeline.

Constraints & tradeoffs

No mains power near the greenhouse, so the whole system runs from a small solar panel and battery — which ruled out Wi-Fi polling every few seconds in favor of batched uploads.

Approach

An ESP32 samples sensors on a deep-sleep duty cycle and applies hysteresis thresholds for the vent and valve. A Python script on a home server ingests the batched logs and produces daily plots.

Result

Held the target temperature band through a full growing season. Placeholder metrics — to be replaced with real ones.
